Meet Justin Small

My name is Justin Small, and I have spent more than 25 years working in information technology, cybersecurity, systems administration, compliance, risk management, and technical leadership.

I served 20 years in the United States Air Force where I worked in cybersecurity, information assurance, compliance auditing, systems administration, and technical leadership positions. Throughout my career I have helped organizations secure systems, manage risk, improve operational readiness, and protect critical business functions.

Today I serve as Executive Vice President, IT Director, and Cybersecurity Director for Diamond Self Storage Management, where I oversee technology operations, cybersecurity initiatives, policy development, risk management, compliance efforts, and technology strategy across multiple self-storage facilities.

Unlike many cybersecurity consultants, I do not simply advise businesses from the outside. I actively manage technology and cybersecurity operations within the self-storage industry every day.

My experience extends beyond technical security controls. I have developed cybersecurity programs, policies, procedures, governance documentation, employee security standards, risk management processes, and consulting frameworks designed to help organizations build sustainable cybersecurity programs that support long-term business goals.

Why Focus on Self-Storage?

Most cybersecurity consultants understand cybersecurity. Very few understand self-storage operations.

Self-storage businesses depend on property management software, online payment systems, gate access controls, surveillance systems, employee workstations, wireless networks, cloud services, vendor relationships, and customer data.

A cybersecurity incident affecting any one of these areas can disrupt operations, expose sensitive information, damage customer trust, create financial losses, and generate significant recovery costs.

Because I actively work within the self-storage industry, I understand both the technical risks and the operational realities facility owners and operators face. My recommendations are based on practical experience, not generic templates.

What Makes Creative Web Solutions Different?

Cybersecurity should support business operations, not complicate them. My focus is helping organizations identify meaningful risks, prioritize improvements, and implement practical solutions that reduce exposure without disrupting daily operations.

Cybersecurity Program Development Experience

Technical cybersecurity skills are important, but effective cybersecurity requires much more than software and hardware.

I have extensive experience developing cybersecurity programs, governance documentation, policies, procedures, standards, and risk management frameworks that help organizations establish long-term security practices.

My experience includes developing employee cybersecurity policies, acceptable use policies, access control procedures, incident response plans, vendor management processes, security awareness initiatives, compliance documentation, and operational security controls.

I have built the documentation, processes, and frameworks necessary to establish internal cybersecurity programs within operating companies and have developed cybersecurity consulting services designed to help organizations strengthen their overall security posture.

Rather than treating cybersecurity as a technology problem alone, I approach it as a business risk management function that should align with operational goals, compliance requirements, and long-term growth.
